First Horn reviewed in Affordable$$Sound

John Hoffman from Affordable$$Audio (Dec. 2006) :

“Almost Blue by Kendra Shank [Afterglow; Mapleshade 02132] sounded so beautiful on this speaker, and this entire disc became one of the highlights of my listening sessions with the First Horn. The venue of this recording sounds like a small jazz club, and this speaker does a remarkable job of placing instruments within an acoustical space. Just as impressive, the First Horn also gets the relative size of each instrument in the correct proportion, and with believable amounts of space in between them.”

“...midrange performance is so detailed and natural sounding...”

First Horn — We have Lift-Off!

One of our customer who is also a reviewer has these comments to share about his pair of First Horn :

“I have only a few discs under my belt at this point but I am astounded by the First Horn/Art Audio PX-25 combo. If the First Horns sound this good, I can't imagine how the Gemme Audio Concerti sound.

I have had to move my chair back from the speakers quite a distance (but) I have never had such a holographic soundstage before. I feel like I am sitting in a jazz club. The scale of the soundstage is just right and vocalists have the right height. I couldn't get off my butt because the sound was so captivating. I was sitting on a hard folding chair towards the back of the room and I was enthralled. I have only once before managed to obtain this type of sound and that was using Maggie 1.6 speakers with VTL MB250 triode monoblocks. It was close to what I have now but did not have as much magic as I am now experiencing. The speakers just disappear and leave the performers on a stage in front of me. Trumpets now have the notes develop from the bell of the instrument, and talk about jump when they blast! It all sounds so natural. The cabinet colorations are not at all objectionable and I think lend themselves to the believability. Piano now has body and weight with harmonics that just melt into my veins.”
